In an increasingly potent climate of censorship, fear, futility, fake news, post-truth politics, fabrication and misinformation, the word is devalued and reality adjusted to serve the intensifying desires of self-absorbed posturing and capitalist greed.

Gone, it seems, are the natural seasonal expressions of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and the spirit and subtlety that each accompanying sonnet evokes – flowing water, bird song, buzzing flies and warm winter fires; we are reduced – our articulation is redacted, our comprehension impacted – to a grave, depleted subtitle.

More personally the piece points at self-censorship – of artists being starved of the opportunity to express ideas of nuance, while those all around are in anguish, locked in ongoing polarized confrontation on and offline.

Created to accompany a live performance by Tasana Nagavajara & Pro Musica Orchestra and the visual art of Gabriel Camelin, TRYSTAND, Kathy MacLeod and Cedric Arnold.
