Trailer - IS THE UK INNOCENT? Black Lives Matter. Documentary - 43 min 30 seconds - 2020-2021, Southeast London, UK.
Black people are nine times more likely to face stop and search than white people - 18 times more likely under Section 60, where no reasonable suspicion is required.
There is the endless list of deaths in police custody - where no British police officer has ever faced prosecution.
Black women are twice as likely as white women, and black men are 3.3 times as likely than white men, to die from Covid-19 in the UK.
Britain was the leading slaver nation, carrying 40% of all Africans transported between 1761 and 1807.
What do all these facts have in common? Racism is at the root.
'Is the UK innocent?' explores the relationship between the
transatlantic traffic of enslaved African people between the 1600s to 1800s and racism today in the UK. Through interviews with anti-racism activists in South East London this documentary asks what the relationship is between Britain's role in the enslavement of over 12m African people and the circumstances in which today's Black people find themselves in the UK.
