Doing big band videos is nothing new to me as I have done three Glenn Miller videos thus far (and hope to do more). This time around though we do one by Tommy Dorsey, with a vocals by Frank Sinatra and the backup singers The Pied Pipers. A truly beautiful and haunting melody from the summer of 1940, this song peaked at #1 for 12 weeks on Billboard from July 27 to October 12, 1940, and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1982.

The footage used in this video from Prelinger Archives Home Movies was shot at two locations in Santa Monica, California in 1941 by John Pietsch. Many of the scenes are of much higher quality than most home movie films from this period. There were many shots of his extensive and lovely flower gardens in the footage, however I edited the film more for the people element which is also in generous supply in the home movie (in keeping with the song). It's a long, sad and wistful look back to a time well before I was born, and even longer before many of you were born as well.
