This Way Up features the song ‘Obaa Sima’ by the Ghanaian dance-rap artist Ata Kak. The song was a local hit in 1990’s Ghana and has since been resurrected by DJ and founder of Awesome Tapes from Africa - Brian Shimkovitz. Like many others, Brian found intrigue in Ata Kak and spent over 10 years trying to find and contact him. After 25 years in the shadows, Ata Kak has now toured in Europe multiple times and his musical sensation is finally celebrated across the globe.

As a collective, we found the re-birth and life journey of this enigma inspiring. His love for the craft is something we share, and the simplicity of wanting to make people dance and be happy is infectious. ‘Moma Yendodo doma doma se medre’ is a phrase that inspires his sound, it translates to – ‘When we love one another, we have peace’. Celebrated between friends, we couldn’t think of a better track to feature in our film.
