Soho House Design Prize 2021

Reimagining the shape and purpose of the existing Vinyl Room in the Soho House New York.
Two intertwined spiral walls divide the room into two, the Collection and the Horn. These two spaces meet at the Heart of the spiral which becomes the threshold between two very different atmospheres.
The Collection welcomes the member and takes Her through Soho House vinyl record library. There is something magical about it, She can spend hours aimlessly searching for music. The corridor side of the intertwined walls is lined with acoustic eco-panels. She feels at ease and cosy. The light is low and focused on the music albums. They are displayed on a continuous shelve attached to the walls.
When she gets to the Heart, She finds a turntable - delicate, refined, timeless - She plays her favourite record. Between then & now, between soft & loud, and between one & all - She becomes the Music.
The light leads Her into the Horn. She rediscovers forgotten depths and textures of the sound. Vibrant scrap brass walls usher Her into the main space.
Now, She has the confidence to dance with others, but She is not afraid to dance on her own. She has the looks to stand out in a crowd, but only because She reflects us all. But do not trust her with your secrets, for when She learns one, She won’t let go.
