An authentic 19th century song which has never been published and only survives thanks to three generations of Manx people;
'The Emigrant's Lament'

This version of the song is entirely true to the bleak version sung around the campfires of the Colorado mines in the 1890s.
It was completed beyond the first verse thanks to Mary Ward Utterback of Illinois, whose family papers provided the source of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th verses.
It is performed here by Keith Teare, whose grandfather, Willie Teare, brought the song to the Isle of Man in 1893 when he returned from his time working in the mines in Colorado.
