Thaipface is a virtual sketchbook on instagram (@thaipface) for seven overseas Thai creatives to explore their relationship with the motherland through the lens of design. Our hope is to shine some light onto our language; let it be known to the world how beautiful Thai letterforms are and what they mean! �
Unlike the Roman alphabet, each Thai character connotes a distinctive meaning, from a chicken � (ก, which is the first letter, it is read as kor kai, kai meaning chicken) to a man-eating giant (ย, read as yor yak, yak meaning giant).
HOWEVER � even though we do want to stay true to what each letter means, we just can't help but explore cultural stereotypes, and maybe show a little defiance to the status quo along the way. �
In this video for TDC communication design competition, we pair our modern take on the letters with the traditional Thai Nursery Alphabets song.
