TEMPEST is an interactive audio-visual artwork that places the audience within a storm. Displayed on the Harpa Concert Hall during Reykjavik's 2019 Winter Lights Festival, the artwork was one of many shown on the building's facade as part of the "Tiny/Massive" programme during the four day light festival.

By interacting with the artwork, the audience triggers blinding flashes of lightning and loud cracks of thunder. The contemplative experience is a reminder of nature’s fragile beauty — inviting us to reflect on how our actions impact the environment. Push the buttons to trigger an electrical storm, or simply watch and listen to the calming rainfall.

—

Music by electronic producer Michael Goldchain. Thanks to the Tiny/Massive team (Jonas Johansson, Owen Hindley, et al) for putting the event together.
