On November 15, 1903, the Macon Telegraph opened its article covering the Church’s dedication with this: If architecture may be fittingly described as frozen music, St. Joeseph’s Church, to be dedicated today, is a symphony.
St. Joseph’s Church is the fully realized dream of Macon, Georgia’s first parish lead by Father James Graham. This Neo-Gothic church took 14 years to build and it occupies a full block of downtown Macon. While the stunning architecture and beautifully commanding 200ft tall towers is already a masterpiece, the interior is where this frozen symphony hits the crescendo.
60 stain glass windows, a white Carrara marble alter and pulpit, ornate sculptures, vivid paintings, and an organ with 1000 pipes.
