This shows some of the video editing screens I have been spending a lot of time with. I have shared this to emphasize how important it is for you to play your very very best in the video submissions for the GroupMusic assignments.
The video will show 5 students playing together from the usual vantage points that we normally see and hear.
If you listen with headphones you'll hear the players arranged in the same left to right orientation in your ears as they are on the screen.
The video will then show sound-waveform representations of each player. As you will see, in addition to hearing, they are very well synchronized.
Also just FYI: It so happens that the song in this video is 120 beats per minute, or two beats a second. And it just so happens that the ruler marks above the waveforms are set at that same rate, two ruler marks per second.
We have many people submitting videos with "much" of their playing being done with this level of precision. Please keep striving for "all" of your playing to be at this level for our GroupMusic assignments.
Also, notice in the video how in tune and well blended the players are with one another. Be sure to check out some of the tuning applications available for personal devices, and tune up your instruments before working on the group music.
When you are playing with the sound files for the GroupMusic assignments, do some tests to get a good volume balance between your instrument and headphones. Make sure you are playing at the volume you use for your very best sound, and that you can hear the sound file in your headphones nice and full sounding. If you are playing your instrument softer than your best sound to hear the headphones, turn the headphones up. If you are playing your instrument louder than your best sound just to hear yourself, then turn the headphones down.
Most importantly, listen back to your recordings before submitting them. If you know you can play at a higher level than what you hear on the recording, don't get frustrated. Take a break, and try again a little while later.
I hope you feel this note is encouraging, and that the video is inspiring to keep up your work in our pursuit of "remote-group" performances.
