Various cathedrals - mostly interiors in the UK and Europe are here accompanied by organ music I produced, using the Spitfire Audio library’s ‘Union Organ.’
Included are: Westminster Abbey, Notre Dame Cathedral, St. Paul’s London, a Dominican church in Llviv, Ukraine, one from Copenhagen, St. Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow and others.
The sounds are from the famed Union Chapel organ in Islington, London, England, which is used regularly in musical productions. (A generation or two of my Austin ancestors lived nearby in Islington.)
Also present - again from a Spitfire Audio library: 'Eric Whitacre Choir, are the gorgeous sounds that are made possible only by the wonder of the human voice, in a sense the only instrument that God made directly.
It's not that cathedrals alone can be considered 'sacred space'. A bird's song at evening in a quiet woods can be as special - as sacred. Or a tiny chapel on a hill in an relatively obscure North Yorkshire dale.
A piano in a parlour and a quiet moment in some green spot in a busy city can also be a place where the sights and sounds of heaven-on-earth can arrest us and soothe our soul.
More about this beautiful and unique organ may be found at unionchapel.org.uk/projects/our-organ/about-our-organ
