Rascals tells the story of RSCLS, a band of street artists who have battled to inject the raw and provocative nature of street art and graffiti into the conservative bubble of Singapore’s art culture. The film centres on their passionate and restless leader Zero, a university professor by day, and a street graffiti artist at night, who single-handedly rallied, unified, and nurtured the street artists of Singapore. Along with his ex-students Spaz and Song, Rascals explores the uncommon life of street artists in Singapore– from spraying walls within HDB heartlands to bailing friends out of jail. Rebels at heart, and spray cans in hand, RSCLS candidly reveals how they propelled the street art scene in Southeast Asia from within the borders of Singapore through solidarity and community.
