2013 was the year I began to think more strategically about the arrangement of the Psych Mix. I started to see it less as a random assortment of songs haphazardly thrown together and more as a single work of art, with ebbs and flows. Each song was chosen because of some special connection to me whether past or present, and this became the norm for all future mixes. Volume 3 is also when I began incorporating more music specifically related to stories and moments from movies and tv that had been meaningful to me: 'Only You' from a beautiful moment of hope at the start of the final season of Fringe, 'This Is War' from the end credits of Dragon Age: Origins, 'Viva La Vida' was used in a montage in The Big Year (which I had seen for the first time on the return trip from Belfast), and 'Let My Love Open the Door' from Dan in Real Life (my favorite romantic comedy). And, of course, I chose to open and close this mix with music from Wreck-It Ralph, a movie which had profoundly impacted my life in many surprising and beautiful ways. Also the first and only time a mix featured two songs from the same album (though not the same artist). All in all, Psych Mix Vol. 3 continues to be one of my favorites and has probably been played more than any other.
