"Patterns in the water"

Lying awake next to you
Eyes fixed – teeming, thoughts in waves,
Then caught by the ceiling’s restless ear

Like patterns in the water.
Where nothing is lost, but
Everything is forgotten.

I began writing this song back in 2014 with the intention of it being part of a greater "Dreams" song cycle. While the rest of the cycle remains incomplete, this particular piece focuses on the drifting moments just before slumber.
In spring of 2017 we created this short music video centering on the idea of water. The song was also premiered live at Malone University's Honors recital in the fall of 2017.
