I Baul sono cantori, artisti, filosofi, mistici del West Bengal. Moltissimi villaggi ospitano ashram in cui i Baul vivono di canto, danza e elemosina. Figlia di una famiglia borghese indiana, Parvathy Baul ha scelto di diventare Baul all'età di sedici anni, rifiutando la formazione "regolare", seguendo il suo Maestro, Sanatan Das Baul. Parvathy oggi si esibisce in tutto il mondo, collabora con l'International School of Theatre Anthropology dell'Odin Teatret. Condivido con Parvathy dieci giorni, la incontro mentre dipinge e si esibisce negli spazi del Monastero del Carmine, a Bergamo.

From short documentary: "Parvathy Baul. The Rootless".
Baul are singers, dancers, artists, philosophers from West Bengal. In many villages Baul ashrams are hosted, in which they live studying, singing and begging for alms. Parvathy Baul choose to became a Baul when sixteen, refusing a regular training in school, following her Guru Sanatan Das Baul, who initiated her in the Baul. Parvathy today performs Baul song, dance and paintings all over the world, she is part of Odin Teatret’s International School of Theatre Anthropology. Baul is listed in UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
I share ten days with Parvathy, I meet her while painting and performing as a guest of Teatro tascabile di Bergamo, in the cloister where the group live and work.
