‘Over and…’ is a somewhat surrealist inspired experimental smartphone film that explores themes of time, stagnation and isolation, using repeating imagery and optical illusions to evoke these core ideas. It encapsulates a feeling of time passing and every day feeling repetitious and as if the person whose perspective it is from is stuck in their life and whilst time feels like its passing them by, like they are in a monotonous routine in which they aren’t growing or improving. The use of time lapses and shooting with different shutter speeds creates a feeling of time moving either slowly or quickly depending on the context (Essentially outside the house is fast whereas inside the house is low). Footage of cyclical movements like a fan rotating or food in the microwave and the optical illusions (endlessly repeating objects in mirrors) creates a feeling of monotony and repetition to the extent that the audience feels trapped in a cycle. Whilst this sounds somewhat depressing, the slow pace and soothing music also brings a sense of calm. As if they have come to terms with their own loneliness and apathy. The absence of people brings a sense of isolation but also an unsettling vibe. Perhaps, unsettling because of the ease in which the audience have accepted their stagnation and isolation, due to the calming nature of the film.
