Lise Meitner was an Austrian physicist who was Jewish by birth and had to flee to Sweden during the second world war. There she kept writing letters to her good friend Otto Hahn, a chemist. At a certain point in their exchange, he told her about a finding he had done in his experiments that would later lead to the discovery of atomic fission. When he pulished these findings, he didn't give Meitner any credit, and he continued to deny her involvement in his discoveries until his death. He would later win the Nobel prize for the discovery of atomic fission, but Lise Meitner never did.
Meitner's life is extremely intriguing and very inspiring. So much so that I have decided to write a series of musical songs about her. This particular song is based on a letter Lise wrote Otto right after the war in which she criticizes him for not standing up to the Nazis.
