not yet almost there examines the intricate entanglements of love, violence, sexuality, power, intimacy, cruelty and pleasure. This deeply existential messiness is explored through pop music in the performance. Good pop music consciously manipulates our brain into joyfully being stuck with a certain tune and/or text in our head. Interestingly, this manipulation is based in pleasure. A catchy melody doesn’t tend to call on feelings of fear, anger or hate. It’s easy, seductive, ‘harmless’ and oh so hard to say no to. Almost as if there were no choice to it at all. It’s the kind of manipulation that we are very willing and eager to welcome in our lives. This in stark contrast to the kinds of manipulation that are part of the realm of love, sexuality and intimacy?
