For David, Teddy, and me, music has been an entirely foundational component of our Dudley experiences. The expansive range of music reverberating throughout Witherbee and the greater Dudley campus each summer is diverse and undoubtedly a cornerstone of the Dudley summer. While it feels impossible to properly describe the role of music at Dudley, even just a weekend schedule illustrates a large part of the picture. The music of Saturdays and Sundays encompasses such a wide range of traditions, sounds, and camaraderie we associate with Dudley. 


The music environment at Dudley is incredibly warm and welcoming, providing a valuable platform for campers to take risks and build confidence. It is tough to imagine another weekly audience in the hundreds as engaging and supportive as Witherbee on Wednesday nights. There is truly no better place to “put yourself out there” than at Dudley, and the musical opportunities are one of the many areas to do so. I distinctly remember the first time I played at Dudley as a Cub in 2009. Since then, playing music with many Dudleyites from many walks of life both on stage and around campus has been such a highlight for me. 


David, Teddy, and I chose “Cassidy” by the Grateful Dead because it fits the bill of a classic Dudley summer song. An acoustic “Cassidy” would find its place quite nicely at a Council Ring and would just as easily find its way onto a Wednesday Night Show setlist as an electric cover (Pete Maiurano, I promise we’ll try to limit it to under five minutes).
