TEACHING SUGGESTIONS

Phil Riley has written this humorous song which young children will really enjoy singing.

A classroom bus could be made out of chairs, a driver selected and the children could bring their favourite toy to school to have a ride on the bus. With the first listening, identify the singers-solo child for the verses and children's choir for the chorus.

The opening instrument is a clarinet - if possible bring in a clarinet player to the school to demonstrate their instrument or look at a video clip.

The song is in a 3/4 meter which provides a good opportunity for children to learn about meter. With the instrumental version playing they could do an oom pah pah bending down on the first beat. They could be shown how to conduct a 3/4 pattern (down, across, up in a triangle shape) and have a turn at conducting the song.
