Few days later, when I was on my own,
that very familiar melody came to me
and I started to hum along.

Neither did I have sung it in the crowd,
nor did I remember the lyrics,
But the melody was running in a loop,
as I wondered what is going on:
Am I patriotic when I am humming a patriotic song?

When you talk about that evilness of patriotism while I was recalling my childhood,
recall when I was six and it was a warm fuzzy afternoon,
when we laughed and sang to the teacher’s piano——
How could I tell you, when I was humming, I was thinking of the leaves outside the window,
rustling, falling to the ground.
