On February 23, 2020, Yale University’s a capella Jewish choir visited Pittsburgh to perform the premier of a new concert series “Sing A New Light,” at Squirrel Hill’s Jewish Community Center. Before the concert, Magevet stopped by Tree of Life synagogue to meet with Barbara Cohen and Marlene Haus, two members of New Light Congregation, for a tour of the memorial, and sang a song to honor victims of the October, 27, 2018, mass shooting during Shabbat services, which injured 6 and killed 11 people, including 3 members of New Light: Richard Gottfried, Dan Stein and Melvin Wax
The Sing A New Light series, founded by Susannah Perlman, sister of New Light Congregation rabbi Jonathan Perlman, will present quarterly performances at the Jewish Community Center of Pittsburgh in Squirrel Hill.
