♦ During LaVallée de l'image festival in Brussels, people were invited to lay down at the middle of the dark room with line of smoke. Light mapping were dancing around the 6 soldiers on the left and the big mamasita at the center, during 6 minutes during, in LaVallée art gallery in April 2019.

Having been born, the creature sets out to replenish its energy. “La Procesión” is the next step of the story. A different place, different characters but with the same universe. The mystical cultural civilization has started moving, out of the mud and the dirt and into geometrically shaped constructions and what appears to resemble a religious altair.

The projection was split in three narrative parts:
1. sound introduction to the tropical world, the rise and birth of the creatures
2. through the experimental electronic ambient analog collage from JPE / Hervé Moire (FR),
3. and a grand finale rhythmic dance to the song of Barrio lindo with "La Sombrita".

The creatures have evolved into a civilization, organised and coded in their own dress. The allure of the unknown has tempted them to march, on the quest for their own identity and the everlasting search for meaningfulness.

♦ COLLECTIF ATRAP ♦

ATRAP oscillates between analog and numeric, combining muralism with projection mapping.
Through the use of light, sound, smog and smell, the fictional world of ATRAP lures the viewer into a multi-layered, 360° experience in many senses. A world first perceived as alien and exotic, but somehow appearing strangely familiar. By using the theme of masks, that have been used since the beginning of mankind to either hide or extend one’s identity, and rhythmic sounds we tell a story that works not only as a light spectacular, but much rather like a mirror of our everyday routine by means of ancient story-telling.

Just like our methods are like a clash of traditional (painting) and modern (light mapping) approaches, our narration makes use of the traditional way of passing on fairy tales in a modern day costume.
The concept has a tradition in lyricism, movies and comic books, and we incorporate these methods into a series of immersive installations, each one being a new chapter of the whole.
ATRAP is the clash between the French visual artist Sophie Le Meillour based in Geneva & the German muralist Robin Kowalewsky based in Berlin.

ATRAP changes its meaning depending on the language. In French, it derives from the verb attraper, which translates loosely to “catching something”. In German, the word Attrappe stands for an optical illusion, a phantom imitating the original. It’s a play with the perception of the viewer, tricking the eye into something surreal.

Just as we as a collective are from two different countries and cultural socialisation forming a creative duo, we combine these attributes into one project: Catching the attention of the viewer with an optical, narrative illusion.

⏄ CHAPTER I. La Selva
The Alte Post in Berlin is an abandoned building turned into a place for urban art. For some it’s a relic from past times, for us it was the perfect birthplace of our project.
Nature is slowly taking over what used to be a concrete symbol for the fast-living society, for ever-improving industrialised capitalism. But as the building has lost its function now, mother nature takes it back into her hands. Branches reach out from the ceiling, grasping the emptiness of this place and a weird creature that somehow seems uncomfortably familiar reaches out from the ground to conquer this space. Breathing heavily, but slowly, it releases its children into the world, energised by a rhythmic trance.
La Selva symbolises roots back to the beginnings of mankind, when culture was meeting nature.

⏄ CHAPTER II. La Procesión
Born and set out to replenish its energy, La Procesión is the next step of the story. A different place, different characters, but still the same universe. The mystical cultural civilization has started moving, out of the mud and the dirt, to geometrically shaped constructions and what appears to resemble a religious altair.
The creatures have evolved into a civilization, organised and coded in their own dress. The allure of the unknown has tempted them to march, on the quest for their own identity and the ever-lasting search for meaningfulness.
