LUTTE explores the masculine body, identity and the relationship between men through a homo-pop art lens. I am interested in the intimate relationship that men have in highly intense, physical practices and the brute, raw force that the individual body performs. In Western society physical contact between men can often be viewed negatively because of fears related to the perception of homosexuality. In other cultures it is customary for grown men to embrace physical contact without it being a taboo. Rough housing is a common activity for some younger kids, and animals bond by wrestling to discover their bodies and those of others. When two people move together there is a hidden communication that happens and this energy travels through their bodies. They develop a partnership with each other in the process and this becomes a dance and choreography. Partnerships and companionship are natural, social desires we have as humans, and are perhaps increasingly becoming extinct in a world of ever-increasing digital isolation.

The music Touch by Secret Pyramid is the electrical energetic thread that sustains the physical bodies in motion. Interestingly, the song is from the album Two Shadows Collide which perfectly illustrates the universe of wrestling. Two shadows coming together in a ritual dance of exhaustive physical contact, play, that balances on the cusp of failure and victory or simply pleasure.

With this in mind, LUTTE oscillates between force and tenderness, resistance and embracing so as to tickle with the boundaries of our perceptions. It travels through endless transformations of repetitive cycles that spiral between multiple layers of identity, overwhelming us. These identities are constantly shifting and adapting, wrestling with endless change.
