Isaiah Hawkins (Ike)
was born in Burlington, NC.
He started singing in church, taking up saxophone in 6th grade. Ike's mother taught music for 65 years andwas a big influence during his formative years. Music played a vital role in Ike's life especially as a 12 year old, schools were integrating and activism was on the rise. Music was an outlet, keeping him out of trouble and allowing him to process what was happening politically at the time. Among the many folks Ike has played for he fondly recalls playing music for Dr. Maya Angelou.
