Coreyah is a Korean world music ensemble whose six members integrate traditional Korean instruments, vocals, guitar, and percussion. Since their 2010 debut, Coreyah has pioneered a new style of Korean music that blends genres of contemporary ethnic and popular sounds while still maintaining the distinctive characteristics of traditional Korean instruments. The group's unique freewheeling, polystylistic vision combines a bariey if influences, including Anglo-American rock, Balkan gypsy, and genres from South America and Africa. The name Coreyah is a Sino-Korean homonym that refers to the inheritance of the past and also in Korean means “whale”—the group’s totem animal and good luck charm.

Coreyah's six musicians formed the group in 2010 and won the grand prize at the 2011 Cheonchamanbyeol Concert, a competition for new music hosted by Bukchon Changwoo Theater, before being selected for the grant program Tune Up. The following year, Coreyah defied expectations and proved that traditional music could attract just as much attention as flashy pop when they reached the top 16 on Top Band II, a band survival show on KBS in Korea. They embarked on a European tour and in 2013 received high marks at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
