Adirondack Birds: Gray Catbirds are somber gray birds with a neat black cap and rusty feathers under its tail. The Male Catbird's song is a long series of whistles, gurgles, and whines, often in imitation of other birds. Gray Catbirds nest in dense shrubs and thickets, including old fields, fencerows, and forest edges. The name is derived from the distinctive mew call. Because of its habitat preferences, this species is more abundant outside the Adirondack Park than within the Blue Line.
