Kia Ora! New Zealand has some roads which are around 160 years old. Might not sound much but they are remote, barely serviced and some of them can be done only with 4WD vehicles, ATV's or enduro bikes. These roads used to be only access to gold mines in Central Otago Gold Rush times in mid 19th century. One particular one - Nevis Road is highest public road in New Zealand, stretches 85km with 24 river crossings. Another is Skippers Valley road which is carved in steep valley wall with Shotover river rapids at the bottom. Half of it can be done with regular car but to reach Skippers gold miners settlement, you gonna appreciate traction on all your wheels really. This road turns into single track and goes even further but I would choose something lighter for that type of adventure. Still impressed with our van's capabilities.
