Episode 02

The sun’s photons translate into data by an ecology of recording devices. Across the thin skin of the planet, a superabundance of energy is garnered through solar radiation. Matter registers environments as light and landscapes are in constant process of co-creation. Recording all kinds of stimuli, the way these processes are registered, being cameraless images, act more like skin than they do eyes.

From cave paintings animated by fire, to present day networks of sensing and monitoring, episode 02 reflects on how light has long been the medium for registering environments. This episode moves from the scale of photons to ourselves as prosthesis for how earth senses itself. Time and place specific, here we look at how geocinema is informed not necessarily by events that trigger its attention but rather through the very slow processes of how environments are sensed.
