Since the 1979 revolution, when the monarchy was toppled, renaming streets has become part of a long-standing tradition in the Islamic Republic. Many roads in the capital have been renamed in honour of people. For instance, due to the Iran and Saudi Arabia conflict, Tehran's city council has renamed a street after the Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, recently executed by Saudi Arabia. The street is where the Saudi embassy is located, and this will cause the Saudi embassy’s postal address to be included Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr street. Churchill Street, where the British embassy is located, is round the corner from a street named after the death of the IRA hunger striker, Bobby Sands. British embassy then changed the embassy's main entrance to avoid it from being included in the postal address.
This project's primary purpose is to make a sonic map representing some streets in Tehran due to the previous names, current names, historical and memorial point of view. In building this project, I have actively engaged with the elements of sound design, synthesis, recording, music composing, mixing and editing for all tracks.
