The allegory of the spider makes it possible to represent the fear of commitment through the web for example.
The person feels trapped, in a future he does not want to assume, he is afraid of commitment.
The character of Jake Gyllenhaal created himself another one to escape this reality that worries him.
As the film progresses, he will become aware of this until he accepts his fate.
In the last scene of the film, his wife is literally a spider who seems to be terrified of her husband’s behavior.
A man unable to make choices, to commit.
Jake Gyllenhaal’s reaction shows that he understands that his marriage will come down to this.
