Songs of hope from open windows by Convex

In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, Convex reflected on new ways to engage audiences into participatory performances that could still invite people to connect to their surroundings.

Echo Station was a series of online-guided participatory singing performances throughout May 2020. Through newly-written playful songs echoing across London, other cities in the UK and abroad, the performance united communities and aimed to reach vulnerable demographics without access to a digital device.

Echo Station raised support to the charity Re-engage, working to combat social isolation and loneliness for older people.

Inspired by clapping for carers in UK and balcony singing in Spain and Italy, Echo Station asked participants to open their windows and connect to their immediate surroundings. Participants were guided by artists to spread good vibrations to their local environment through echoing especially-written songs for the occasion that called to interaction, playfulness, reflection and togetherness.
