"Taller de danza contemporánea del Teatro San Martín” was created in 1977 at the same time that the Contemporary Ballet of the San Martín Theatre; which is the only dance company of the theatre resort of Buenos Aires.
The first objective of the Workshop was to propose a space for research, training and artistic improvement to provide dancers for the company. Over time, these objectives were expanded: subjects were added and the course was organized in a three-year cycle that allows deepening techniques and working freely in research tasks, to achieve a complete training in modern/contemporary dance . The course has no cost and takes place in a space donated by the choreographer Ana Itelman.
The graduates of the Dance Workshop have the possibility of integrating the cast of the company or inserting themselves into other groups, creating independent spaces and obtaining scholarships to travel abroad, where many join important international companies.
Intended to:
Qualified students, with complete secondary studies, interested in starting a professional career as a interpreter/dancer in contemporary dance that, due to their aptitudes and artistic potential, can also be summoned to integrate the Contemporary Ballet of the San Martín Theatre.
Registration requirements:
To be between 17 and 20 years of age for women, and between 17 and 21 years for men; complete or ongoing secondary studies; Medium-high technical level in classical and modern dance (a minimum of four years of continuous training in both techniques); submit a curriculum with personal identification and documentation. Those selected applicants in the entrance exam must attend a pre-admission course during the month prior to the start of classes. This course is evaluative and eliminatory at the end of each week, which allows an adequate levelling of the group that will definitely enter the 1st year. That group is averaged annually in an amount of 25 regular students. The race has a duration of three (3) years. The Workshop Management reserves the right of admission and termination of the same. Organism
The Theatre Resort of Buenos Aires is the organism of the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires dedicated to the promotion of artistic disciplines such as theatre, dance, music, puppets, cinema and photography. Among its services for the promotion of dance, it has the Workshop of Contemporary Dance, aimed at the improvement of qualified students of medium-high level who want to start their professional career.
