Dance Kōan began as an experiment of how we can create in isolation, together. The movers were given the same prompt derived from the words of Zen kōans (meditative poems) from which their individual shapes and phrases emerged. Just as the kōan interrupts the patterns of the mind, the dance kōan interrupts the patterns of the body. This process is intended to be an on-going laboratory for our respective periods of isolation, which present new obstacles and possibilities in art-making. ◓
