The Chess vs. Master Hand is a short animation about a conflict between a chess set and the Master Hand. The conflict is that the black chess pieces are under the Master Hand’s control. On the black chess pieces’ first turn, the Master Hand slams a pawn chess piece hard, making all the other chess pieces shake. When the second turn arrives, the Master Hand is not only violent but places the chess piece incorrectly. At this time, the white chess pieces notice and become enraged. This is when the white chess pieces decide to challenge the Master Hand to free the black chess pieces from his control. The Master Hand and white chess pieces fight, and eventually, the black chess pieces join in. Together, the whole chess set defeats the Master Hand, and in the end, the chess pieces celebrate their victory for the black chess pieces are no longer in control of the Master Hand.

This animation was a group collaboration using Autodesk Maya and Adobe After Effects. Ann 3D modeled and rigged the Master Hand. Thomas 3D modeled chess pieces and board in the animation and edited the skydome image. Ann, Lilly, and Thomas produced the 3D animation in Maya. Lilly worked on lighting the scene and adjusted how the materials looked like rendered. Ann and Lilly found music and sound effects for the animation. Joel added effects and end credits in Adobe After Effects.
