Our memories are a big part of how we define ourselves. But memories are altered and not accurate recounts of our lives.
In Casa da Mariquinhas, the audience is taken through the life of Mariquinhas in her house, analyzing her memories and who she is now. This journey is accompanied by live Fado music representing each memory.
Throughout the performance, Mariquinhas is faced with the conflict between what she remembers and what happens and is forced to redefine herself in front of the audience.
This performance draws from Portuguese culture, happening around food, religion and different artifacts, as well as the role of women in fado and the meaning of these songs in the collective memories of Portugal.
