New Zealand artist Campbell Patterson works with a measured methodology and process of accumulation, exploring emotional responses, personal boundaries and the abjectness of the body. In the multi-channel video work, spent, (2020), the end credits from multiple mainstream movies are looped and repeated along with their evocative exit music. By removing the films’ storylines we’re left only with clues to their climax. En masse, the videos suspend us in an emotionally ambiguous feeling of closure.
