Bright. What is brightness? How is brightness expressed, physically and spiritually? When I first read the theme for this project, my eyes looked up from the screen and fell upon the Christmas tree brightening our lounge. Swimming in Christmas lights and glittery decorations, the tree reminded me of the way my friends make me feel- the way they have brightened my life and made each passing second that little bit more colourful and exciting. I really wanted to play with the concept of brightness being a person, or a moment in someone's life. I originally planned on using a script for this film, but ultimately decided that simply briefing my actors to be themselves (with small instructions on what to do in order for me to easily keep a storyline) and leaving it silent (zero-dialogue) meant that I could focus on capturing how someone's vibes and energy can brighten someone else's life. This also meant I could capture natural reactions and responses in my cast. I used my phone camera for this film, as I felt that using a bulky camera and getting close up to my actor's faces with it, would perhaps make them feel intimidated or make the shooting seem less natural and more forced.

The reason I shot the first half of the video in black and white and the second half in colour is because I wanted to visually express the colour and brightness that the female protagonist brings to the life of the male. I wanted him to seem cold and devoid of colour and joy in the first half, and emphasise in the second half the contrast between the two moments in time due to the brightness the female has brought into his life.
I decided to choose a lo-fi version of the song Circles by Post Malone as the theme of this film. Lo-fi music is typically music that is regarded as imperfect or low quality- I really liked how the imperfections of the song are almost structurally mirrored to the imperfections of the main protagonist- he is gloomy and almost broken, stuck in circles going round and round in despair until his life is brightened up by someone who seems almost perfect to him.

ROLES
With the exception of acting, I completed all roles in filming this project.
My two actors were:
Stephen Kierszten in the role of MALE PROTAGONIST
Chloe DeCourcy in the role of FEMALE PROTAGONIST.
