I scaled up my "Pretty Bird" design to the largest format supported by my factory partner: 18" x 24". This is also about as large as standard electronic components get (a larger PCB would have a schism with the scale of the electronics... although I intend to make my own sculptural components for future works). The bird's song is analog electronic -- the result of several discrete transistor oscillators and a simple audio amplifier. The circuit reacts to light in two ways: it has a light-sensitive resistor that effects the chirp rate of a negator oscillator, and the board itself is translucent when held up to light. The metallic details visible on the board are 14 carat gold electroplate.
