I wrote this song, like all of my songs, very quickly. I'm a firm believer that, I'm not so much writing the song -- as channeling it. In the case of Between the Shadow and Soul, I had Hans Zimmer's Time and Max Richter's On the Nature of Daylight mashing up in my mind.

While following my ear, I dove in to the middle section of the song. I couldn't get back to the introduction motif in the D minor position, but I could get back to it in E minor -- one whole step up. The transition is so seamless that the casual listener will assume I resolved the song with the introduction. Only a guitar player -- playing the TAB -- will notice that I've pushed the beginning motif up a whole step.
