One of my new favorite places to visit is Adder Pond in Andover, NH. The pond itself is great for kayaking, I made a film about that a few weeks ago. Where the water flows out of the pond towards the southwest, there are two marshy areas that are radically different from each other. One is a classic red maple swamp, where many of the trees have died because their roots have been drowned for years. That is right beside a more open marsh that perhaps would be classified as a sedge grass wetlands. I have taken to calling this area the Adder Pond Annex. This short film takes you through both marshy areas, and if you look close you will see a large hawk on one of the tree branches.

The title for this movie comes from the song I chose for the background music. I liked the song first and then started thinking about the song's title, and how that relates to my seemingly endless fascination with these New England wetlands. When I am kayaking in these places, I feel like I have entered a timeless zone, an ecology that could be millions of years old. It is as if a dinosaur might step out from the edge of the trees to take a drink in the shallow pools, or munch on the lush greenery. It truly does feel like I have been granted a glimpse of eternity.
