Razors SL Common Loon: The Nic Brenden Unprofessional Pro Model

I always thought it would be a super fun project to make your own skate. So I took some Razors SL Korey Waikik’s and started customizing. The idea of a pro skate to me is to create a skate that reflects your personality and your style when you skate.

Skating started in Minnesota for me so I had to represent that. I take it pretty seriously so a mostly black skate seemed appropriate. I also like a lot of support so I made the decision to add a strap across the front. Comfort, anyone who knows me knows I preach comfort when you skate. If you’re not cozy your mind will be busy thinking about the wrong things. I tried a bunch of liners and ended up with a Seba Balance liner because it has a lot of padding around the ankle area. Thematically I incorporated some stripes and marks from the state bird The Common Loon. I also have a bit of high pitched squawk at times when I’m juiced up so that seemed to really fit. It fit so much so that I now have a rather large bird running down my right leg.

This was super fun and I hope other people get inspired to make their own pro model and think about how they skate and why they skate. It clarified a lot of thinking about my perspective on skating and the process of making a skate uncovered that for me.
