VIRTUAL SJ5K Challenge: pay it forward!

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the community-based, student-produced, grassroots service-learning collaboration known as the SJ5K, I encourage everyone to use this time of challenge to come together, strengthen your heart and soul, and experience the empowerment of supporting others and directly impacting local families facing medical hardships.

Shout out to Jesse Lindlbauer and Tommy Halewicz for actively demonstrating perseverance through adversity and the power of compounded interest and healing energy. During times of crisis, leaders rise and character is forged.

While social distancing creates obstacles for participants accustomed to the traditional hands-on Race Day / Fun Run event, we also have a rare opportunity this year: expand the SJ5K beyond Plymouth-Canton through social networking and a one-week window to complete and document your SJ5K workout.

For those of you outside the Plymouth-Canton community, consider prepping for this 5K and participating with us, from wherever you are.

What that in mind, I accept Tommy’s “5 Weeks of 5K Challenge” and in turn, pass along the challenge to some special out-of-state leaders—all former students who call Plymouth-Canton their old stomping grounds. Let’s savor some of that regional-reach flavor in this year’s SJ5K. How many communities across the country will be represented?

As always, you can run it, walk it, bike it, whatever suits your style and interest.

This year’s SJ5K will take place between May 3rd and May 10th.
