Texas Waltz is a video loop created from footage that I captured at the Upstate county fair in Spartanburg SC in 2008. The bull cost five dollars to ride and the carnie operating the bull tried all his tricks to get people to ride it. From challenging every guy’s manhood that walked bye to making the bull dance in a hypnotizing way (that forced anyone passing to stop and gaze at the wonderful little dance). After looping the footage I was reminded of the mechanical movements that one engages in while they are dancing a waltz. I incorporated Ernest Tubbs Waltz Across Texas to emphasize this association and to add a bit of humor to what is normally seen as a serious macho endeavor. The video is intended to be viewed through the duration of the song.
