Daily Practice 01_07_2020 - I would never of thought of TouchDesigner as a tool for making music until I was fortunate to meet Owen Kirby at the Derivative Hackathon. What you see here is Owen's SynthBuilder components which are sold on his etsy store. In my opinion when it comes to audio in this program Owen has done work that no one ever anticipated. The device playing this music is called the Pioneer Toraiz Squid, it is a hardware sequencer that you can drag and drop midi files into to sequence other gear and have all sorts of fun with arpeggios and reversing the sequence which I do here. In this case the Squid is going into my midi interface and that input opened up in the Midi Device In chop which is as simple as connecting to Owen's system adding a component which allocates the notes to voices (it is playing 4 note chords to 4 voices) then to an incredibly versatile Oscillator module with an even more incredible array of sound design options (I toggle between triangle, square and sawtooth waves here), an envelope which starts and stops the tone and an amp to send the sound onto my soundcard. These tools made what would have taken ages to setup more like minutes. Having played dozens of synths and even more soft synths none of them come even close to the customization this can provide. Now onto creating even nicer synths and arrangements and perhaps using tdAbleton with this! Salutations and Thank you Owen, you have made the Electronic Ape very happy!
