I am a visual artist working mainly in printing, painting and photography. I am drawn to exploring the ephemeral nature of the world we inhabit. Landscapes, both rural and urban, are sources of inspiration. I use both representational and more abstract imagery to convey these ideas and observations. Shifting forms, light, texture and colour are features of my work.
I have made recent trips to the Isle of Sheppey and Dungeness to capture the changing sky and landscapes, and you can see some of this work in my film. I am producing photo-etchings, screen prints and paintings to show the dynamism of the clouds and skyscapes. On a similar theme I examine the concept of disintegration, using less representational images to depict themes of collapse and decay in a series of screen prints and etchings.
Over the past three months, just as life has changed for everyone, I have had to rethink my plans for the year as home schooling became an unexpected parental responsibility! However, art has played an important role in breaking the monotony of lock down – creative projects carried out with the children have brought some fun and colour in a restricted world. Kind neighbours (some of them artists too) have provided new ideas and materials to inspire the children when mine have run out…
It has been inspirational working with Brockley Open Studios to find an alternative way to bring this lovely community event to fruition this year. This has provided a way of presenting my work which initially I thought would not be possible in 2020 and for which I am very grateful.
