RESIDENCY 42: NOVEMBER 18-DECEMBER 20, 2019nibia pastrana santiago develops “choreographic events” to experiment with time,
fiction, and notions of territory. She believes in experimentation as methodology and
form, constantly speculating on dance as a situation where the audience serves as
"companions" rather than spectators. In her practice, dance-making is a series of tense
considerations between anchoring the image that is produced and accepting its quality
of irremediable oblivion. She insists on fatigue so that chance and desire-making
manifest through humor and boredom. These durational performances can happen at
an airport, a pier, or a museum.
Currently, nibia is co-editing an anthology on Puerto Rican experimental dance with
dance scholar Susan Homar, to be published in 2021. Since 2017, she has served as
the Dance Program Academic Coordinator at Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, the
