Potassium is a horror-comedy short that plays off of the classic slipping on a banana peel trope. It is set in your average middle-class American kitchen with the plot surrounding one thing, bananas. The comedic aspect of the film comes from the deep contrast between the horror tone and comedic trope of slipping on a banana peel. The knife, banana, and peel all contribute to the comedic premise of my film because they are what make the film a parody of classic horror. The lighting played a key role when it came to setting the noir gritty tone of the film to really sell the horror of it. Lighting really worked in the first scene when the banana is first taken. the shadows that are cast along the wall gives them an ominous presence. Overall the style of the performance in this video is silly and fun. What is interesting about the silliness is it comes from how serious the film takes itself. Its that contrast of taking itself so seriously that it becomes silly is what really makes the comedy work in this short.
