Il tempo passa per tutti. Inutile scrutarsi e riscrutarsi allo specchio con fare sconsolato, se ormai si è già colpiti da una diffusa calvizie. C'è poco da fare... Ma ne siamo proprio certi? Il protagonista di questa irresistibile comica "a trucchi" scoprirà a sue spese che per il suo problema un rimedio si può trovare ma anche che, alla lunga, quest'ultimo potrebbe rivelarsi peggiore del male. Il finale è un trionfo tricologico che vede lo sfortunato ex-calvo ritrovarsi con un look decisamente più selvaggio del necessario, grazie a un sapiente utilizzo della tecnica "a passo uno". Come si suol dire, attenti ai vostri desideri, perché corrono il rischio di avverarsi.
Un soggetto di successo per un film che, sulla base della documentata ipotesi di identificazione che propone il Dr Robert J. Kiss e che noi qui facciamo nostra, è una vera rarità. Per comporre il proprio ricco catalogo di offerta 28mm "home movies", infatti, la Pathé attinse a piene mani alle proprie produzioni per il cinema, riproponendo successi anche di diversi anni prima. Plus de chauves è invece uno dei rari titoli realizzati appositamente per il mercato Pathé Kok, sebbene possa considerarsi il remake del più antico Lotion miracolose (1904). Questo storiella divertente era evidentemente considerata di grande impatto, dal momento che, con piccole variazioni, venne proposta non solo dal film del 1904 e da questo rifacimento del 1912, ma anche da altri titoli affini quali L’eau merveilleuse (Pathé, 1901) o La Lotion forcée (Gaumont, 1909).

La digitalizzazione di Plus de chauves è stata realizzata nel 2017 nell'ambito di un partenariato tra il Museo Nazionale del Cinema di Torino, la Cinémathèque de Toulouse e la Cinémathéque de Nouvelle-Aquitaine. L’intervento si inserisce in un progetto di valorizzazione della collezione di pellicole 28mm Pathé KOK conservate a Torino. La riparazione delle copie e la scansione in 2K sono state realizzate dalla Cinémathèque de Nouvelle-Aquitaine, il lavoro sull'immagine e la finalizzazione dalla Cinémathèque de Toulouse. Time flies for everyone. It’s useless to look and look again at yourself in the mirror disconsolately, if you already suffer from a diffuse baldness. There is nothing to do…but are we really sure? The protagonist of this irresistible comedy trick film will find out at his cost that it’s possible to find a remedy to his problem but also, in the long run, that It could turn out worse than the problem. The end is a trichological triumph in which the unlucky former bald finds himself with a decidedly wilder look than needed, thanks to a skilful use of the stop-motion technique. As the saying goes: beware of your dreams, because you run the risk of realizing them.
This is a successful story for a film which – on the basis of a well-documented identification hypothesis proposed by Dr. Robert J. Kiss, and that we espouse – is a true rarity. To compose its rich catalogue of 28mm “home movies” offerings, Pathé assembled a large number of its own film productions, reviving various past successes. Plus de chauves on the contrary is one of the rare titles realized for the Pathé KOK market, even if it can be considered a remake of the older film Lotion miracolose (1904). This hilarious story was evidently considered to be of strong impact since it was proposed, with some small variations, not only in the 1904 film and this remake of 1912, but also in similar titles like L’eau merveilleuse (Pathé, 1901) or La Lotion forcée (Gaumont, 1909).

No More Bald Men was digitized in 2017 through a partnership involving the film archives of Turin, Toulouse, and Limoges, starting with the films from the 28mm collection in Turin. Repair work and scanning in 2K were carried out by the Cinémathèque de Nouvelle-Aquitaine, and image-enhancement and finalizing by the Cinémathèque de Toulouse.
