This week’s song is from the Rock Opera “Tommy.”
Back in the early aughts - long before Puddles The Clown had his version (great as it is) -
I saw Lubbock, Texas’ own Elvis T. Busboy play this mashup at Club Dada one night.
Mind Blown.
I decided then and there that I had to borrow (OK, steal) this brilliant arrangement, though I decided to keep it short, simple, and try to see if the audience would follow the band when we took a hard left turn.
Every time we played this in Half-Nelson or Fur Cabin, it was a crowd pleaser and every time we played it, the fun for me, at least, was watching people’s reactions when their minds were blown. Kinda like how a dog who’s confused at something you’re doing will sometimes look at you with ears up and then cock his head to one side with a “WTF” look on his face?
Once we added this song to the set list in early 2006, I don’t think we ever played a gig without playing this song.
With reverence, we always dedicated this song to “The Man In Black.”
